My goodness today was a challenge! A roller coaster! Nervousness, anxiousness, stress, excitement and happiness.

Week 5 of the Grow Academy Bootcamp and GivenGain was in the RLabs space this week and took me and the rest of the recruits on a whole new journey, well it was new to me at least. GivenGain basically let each group come up with a campaign to raise awareness and funds for GROW and present our campaign at the end of the week which was today. I belonged to the group called Team Xtreme and  they are such awesome people, Rabia, Lance and Justine. We created a facebook page called My Growth First and a twitter profile @MyGrowthFirst as well as an activist profile on GivenGain where people can donate to our worthy cause. We also created our own awesome video from scratch which is now on youtube under My Growth First by Team Xtreme.

I’m so proud! Everything we did in a short amount of time. The stress and pressure was totally worth it after the relief we all felt. There was other groups as well with different campaigns such as: The Digital Bootstrap (campaign name: Chain Breakers). Digital Artisans (campaign name: Growing Shapers). The Legends (campaign name: Eat2Grow). I am extremely impressed with all the campaigns presentations and some videos that were made by recruits in one week! Really a creative bunch of youngsters. Team Xtreme

even won a spot certificate for best video (Hoeraay!)

The Grow Academy really challenges you and takes you to new avenues you never knew existed! I’d encourage anyone to enrol at RLabs for the Grow Bootcamp any day, that’s if you want to add to your life 😉

Ever heard of SEO?

Search Engine Optimisation

Search Engine Optimisation

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. This plugin optimizes your website to become no.1 on google search.

This week (week 4of6) is Webgrowth week where we will go indepth with SEO and getting it set up. Today we all were overloaded by Neil Pursey with information and checking out the traffic on our sites and competitors of our website keywords, we also got some research tips and so much more!

It was a good idea from Wendy Jeffries to start our day with body combat! It was physical exercises we hardly do so it was good body food.

Rock on RLabs and Grow Academy!

Going Geek!

Gary started our day with the check-in. In groups we had to use the things around us to build something. My group built a house with bricks, another group made a cool water purifier and another group made a parashoot with a black bag and a pot-plant, it was really interesting to see what the groups came up with. The purpose was to make us think what we would do with the information we learn at RLabs and Grow Academy everyday.

Today’s session was with She’s the Geek! Monique Ross and Rene Parker did a great job, picking our brains a little letting us answer questions. We also were informed of more plugins and widgets for our websites and had loads of time to work on our sites.

Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Day 1 at the Grow Academy Boot Camp at RLabs

Today with excitement in the air was the 1st day of week 2 of the 6 week boot camp, which by the way has nothing to do with the army, it’s all social media!

As part of my tourism internship and to expand my mind a little I was told that the boot camp would be good for me and I could sit in as a guest on the side lines. I was then asked to help with the social media coverage and then asked to take photos, as I was doing that, Monique said I must leave it and just join the recruits and be part of what is happening. I did not object to that!

We started the day the RLabs way with a unique check in and Bradley Naidoo from Chisana Tours treating us like soldiers. Craig Ross then gave us something to think about, the world beyond 2020. He encouraged us to push boundaries and build on things that already exists. We did two activities. For the 1st one, in groups we had to discuss how we would handle certain customers online, and the 2nd activity involved us having to think beyond 2020 and how we would promote a sushi restaurant that did not get much people in because of the winter season. The group that I was in went wild and thought big and far in the future, saying that we would have an app that would make the restaurant the coolest restaurant in the galaxy! The Intergalactic Sushi App! We said that the app would allow you to teleport yourself and your friends to the restaurant and each night would be a different theme. The app would allow virtual food samples that comes out of your mobile phone and also make online bookings. This app would be really cool to have in the future, I think it is too unreal and advanced to develop now. It was fun letting all the creative juices flow like that.

Rafiq Philips, who works for MIH and has a very active webaddict.co.za website, did a presentation and said that you are what you publish on the web, so whatever you publish must make a difference and bring you a step closer to your goals. I like that. He also said we should share our ideas on our blogs and that’s what I will do.

So now we ending the day with an opportunity to blog. What a lovely day. 4 more days to go 🙂 ready to learn more!

Just Me!

It’s been a while since my first blog yes I know, it’s called procrastination, something myself and I’m sure many others suffer from. Well, now to introduce myself as I said I would. . .

I am a 2nd year Tourism Management student, age 19 (I went to school early). I am doing my 6 month internship at the moment with Chisana Tours at RLabs (Bridgetown). My identifier is “the girl with the long hair and glasses”. I’m part of my church’s worship team so I love singing with a passion especially songs that makes sense. I love singers and dancers and supporting people who have talent, it just makes me so excited. There’s not much that I dislike but to name a few, it’s reading and certain types of food (I’m picky with everything).

Starting with my household, I have 1 awesome sister that is older than me but shorter than me (I should stop saying that, it’s not nice). She loves me to bits and has the smart mind that I want. I have a supermom that really is good at just anything! She’s super smart, funny, straight forward, and brilliant at directions and remembering things. My dad is a wonderful man of God! He’s like the coolest pastor ever. He’s super fun and easy to talk to and very wise! I try to take all his advice. Then there’s my ma that lives with us, she likes making jokes with me and going the extra mile to do things for us. I have the most awesome friends ever, would never trade them. There are my childhood friends, my friends at home, at church, campus, school days and at the office where I do my internship. I love how they all understand me or accept me and all my weirdness, jolly and random traits that I have.

Crazy Me

I say I’m weird but I actually mean unique, I’m not like anyone else. I talk a lot, repeat myself and babble when I’m nervous. I focus on the good in everybody which is known to be one of my weaknesses as my loved ones tells me it makes me blind. I asked people what they think of me and it was all positive things people would say to make me feel good (and it worked) but I would describe myself as a special soft rose that only comes around once. I’m honest, funny (if you understand my humour) I’m pure hearted, hate getting into trouble of any sort, strong conscience I guess so I always try to do what’s right and good, I just underestimate myself a lot. I love big tight hugs, listening to people talk, helping and serving people, lifting others higher than me then I end up putting myself down, that’s not good but I keep doing it and feel intimidated when I shouldn’t be. I have a bad memory, horrible with car names, any brand names, phones and technology but RLabs and my mom helps me with that, she has her own blog too, Lady Socialite. I enjoy chatting on social networks and I laugh for everything and try to see humour in any situation. I love order, principles and things to be done right. I like sleeping, I have a lazy side, and I would chill and do nothing forever if I could. I’m bad with decisions, following directions, my handwriting and maths. I don’t always cry for movies or funerals I don’t know why, doesn’t mean I’m heartless.

I love sharing too and sharing this blog with you, it’s a way to express yourself, perfect for me and my thoughts. Hope you enjoyed getting to know me. God bless.
