Thinking back to the past 4 weeks that I was part of the Academy, It was a unique experience for sure.
I’ve learned so much, did so much, achieved so much, did things I would never have thought I’d do.
The first week with Woothemes was great and exciting. That was when I received my own domain and now I have my own website! jodibiggs.co.za check it out. I made it a Tourism blog because I like tourism and sharing what is interesting. In this week we got to think about what we want our websites to be like and we got to customize it the way we wanted it using CSS.
Preparing for the Friday presentations was intense but everyone’s websites are awesome! These are the websites:
The brilliant Rafiq Phillips from the webaddict enlightened us about the important plugins our websites should have and educated us on the different terms that I didn’t know before. And I now know that Google plus is important and quite fun actually!
She’s The Geek made us really have fun thinking and answering the questions and discussing the answers! Great time opening our minds.

The SEO (Search Engine Optimization) week was hectic! Information overload! We had different facilitators such as, Neil Pursey, Shu-aib Benjamin, Shaheed and Darryl. We got to register on Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, Project SEO and Webgrowth. We were educated about the in-depth things of our websites and maintaining it and how to optimize it to be approved by Google and make you number 1 on the search engine. We focused a bit on the keywords and how to use it and covered many plugins, read this blog on Webaddict: The 10 must have plugins to grow you blog. We were encouraged to network and comment on other blogs as well.
Carla Ferreira and Jannie Smith from GivenGain Source
My goodness today was a challenge! A roller coaster! Nervousness, anxiousness, stress, excitement and happiness.
Week 5 of the Grow Academy Bootcamp and GivenGain was in the RLabs space this week and took me and the rest of the recruits on a whole new journey, well it was new to me at least. GivenGain basically let each group come up with a campaign to raise awareness and funds for GROW and present our campaign at the end of the week which was today. I belonged to the group called Team Xtreme and they are such awesome people, Rabia, Lance and Justine. We created a facebook page called My Growth First and a twitter profile @MyGrowthFirst as well as an activist profile on GivenGain where people can donate to our worthy cause. We also created our own awesome video from scratch which is now on youtube under My Growth First by Team Xtreme.

I’m so proud! Everything we did in a short amount of time. The stress and pressure was totally worth it after the relief we all felt. There was other groups as well with different campaigns such as: The Digital Bootstrap (campaign name: Chain Breakers). Digital Artisans (campaign name: Growing Shapers). The Legends (campaign name: Eat2Grow). I am extremely impressed with all the campaigns presentations and some videos that were made by recruits in one week! Really a creative bunch of youngsters. Team Xtreme
even won a spot certificate for best video (Hoeraay!)
The Grow Academy really challenges you and takes you to new avenues you never knew existed! I’d encourage anyone to enrol at RLabs for the Grow Bootcamp any day, that’s if you want to add to your life 😉
I know it’s already 16 days into the new year 2013 but I just wanted to take the time to reflect and write about my year 2012!
I’d say it was pretty awesome!!
In the month of January I joined the worship team at my church (Cape Town Christian Fellowship), joined the twitter world @jodibiggs.
Me in the worship team
March I wrote my 1st and only poem.
April I was prophesied over.
Prophesy over me; “There is a victory shout within me…”
In May I wrote my 1st song 😀 which I’m super proud of!
In June the Lord answered my prayers and we didn’t move, I’m so glad we get to stay here!
July was so special because I had my first date with my most special friend Timothy and I had an awesome weekend sleepover with my church L.O.L (Ladies of Legacy) girls that I will never forget!
August was awesome because I was in Genadendal for a day (I used to live there so it was touching to go back for a day). And of cause, I went on the Garden Route Tour with my fellow Tourism classmates of Cape Peninsula University of Technology which was brilliant!
My friends and I in Mossel Bay Dias square

September myself and 13 other students in my group hosted our Zonke Bonke Market Day event at the Cape Town campus, couldn’t believe we pulled it off. We had the dance crew B.B.D.M. (Boom Box Dance Masterz), Jonathan Rubain and his crew, Marimbas and so much more!!

In October my internship started with Chisana Tours at RLabs and so I went on some really amazing Cape Flats tours, did social media coverage at RLabs 7 start-ups launch.
November I did part of the tour on Table Mountain with Bradley Naidoo for the RLabs teens graduates, I sang a solo, thinking about forever at our Biggs Family day and published it on youtube along with another cover video singing you are for me. I sang at the reunion straight after I had bronchitis and my voice was gone a few days before that!

Singing Thinking about forever
And finally December…the best… There was the awesome 16th birthday party of 1 of my church friends that I attended and danced like craaazy! There was the RLabs graduation I had the privileged of attending, I got my results and passed all my subjects with 1 distinction, I learned how to swim a little, was with Chisana Tours taking a Finland couple on a tour, spent a lovely Christmas day with my parents, spent the day with my best friend Aminah, had an awesome time singing on stage as part of the worship team on the New Years eve church service and then stayed awake at the Williams family house celebrating New Years day which was great!
And that was the end of my year :)…I had really good moments with B.B.D.M.(Boom Box Dance Masterz), went to watch them dance and they also performed at my event! They going big and I get to see them :D…I got to meet Sasha-Lee Davids and O’Ryan Winter and watched the AmazinkLive show!

So…that was my AWESOME 2012 and I’m looking forward to an even better 2013!
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. This plugin optimizes your website to become no.1 on google search.
This week (week 4of6) is Webgrowth week where we will go indepth with SEO and getting it set up. Today we all were overloaded by Neil Pursey with information and checking out the traffic on our sites and competitors of our website keywords, we also got some research tips and so much more!
It was a good idea from Wendy Jeffries to start our day with body combat! It was physical exercises we hardly do so it was good body food.
Gary started our day with the check-in. In groups we had to use the things around us to build something. My group built a house with bricks, another group made a cool water purifier and another group made a parashoot with a black bag and a pot-plant, it was really interesting to see what the groups came up with. The purpose was to make us think what we would do with the information we learn at RLabs and Grow Academy everyday.
Today’s session was with She’s the Geek! Monique Ross and Rene Parker did a great job, picking our brains a little letting us answer questions. We also were informed of more plugins and widgets for our websites and had loads of time to work on our sites.
At the moment I’m back with the Grow Academy at RLabs, it’s week 3, Day 3. It’s awesome so far! I have a website!!! Yes that’s right, I do. Check it out: jodibiggs.co.za
I’m so excited about it, so cool of them to give us all our own domains, for free! I’m using mine as a Tourism networking type of site where I will blog about my tourism experiences, findings and basically tourism from my point of view. for this week we learned some coding, design, widgets, various plugins today that Rafiq Phillips took us through, ideas on how to use the site from a business perspective.
Thanks to @mattyza and @jeffikus and Hugh from Woothemes and Rafiq the awesome blogger of Web Addict
